Reminds me of my youth when I skated in Victoria Park. I lived on Joseph Street 83 to be exact. One early winter night in my 10th year I put on my boots and walked to the Boat House with my skates slung over my shoulder. There was fresh ice on the lake and a full moon gave plenty of light. I sat on the lake side of the boat house and tied up my skates. I stood on the lip of the boat platform and jumped onto the ice. to my shock and surprise I went through the ice and was struggling to get out of the frigid water. I remember slipping as I grabbed on the ice for my life. I finally got out, grabbed my boots and walked home in my skates. When I walked in the house my clothes were frozen. My mother was not amused. I was forbidden to ever go out at night without my older brother Jackie.
